Ryan Garcia has issued some key advice to Jake Paul ahead of his heavyweight showdown with Anthony Joshua.
‘The Problem Child’ is gearing up to face the two-time world heavyweight champion over eight rounds at the Kaseya Center in Miami on Friday December 19, live and exclusive on Netflix.
Paul made his return to the ring back in June when he defeated Mexico’s former WBC world middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr at the conclusion of their cruiserweight meeting in Anaheim.
As for Joshua, the 36-year-old from England has been inactive since he suffered the fourth defeat of his professional career to former IBF world heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois in September 2024.
In a recent interview with Covers, former WBC interim lightweight champion Garcia sent out some important advice to Paul, as he urges his countryman to ‘smother’ the hard-hitting Brit when they lock horns.
“I don’t even think he knows how to do this, but I would smother AJ. AJ can’t fight on the inside at all, at all, he has no inside game whatsoever. And that’s why Usyk was catching him at ease.
“It’s either I’m going to be outside the realm of getting hit, which is moving around the ring, not staying in front of Anthony at any moment, or I’m going to smother Anthony Joshua and hopefully catch him, either inside, or when once he smothers, then he tries to shoot a shot, then you catch him … Good luck.”
Whilst he is faced with undoubtedly the toughest test of his boxing career to date, Paul appears to be full of confidence heading into the bout and has even backed himself to defeat ‘AJ’ via knockout in a bold claim.
