Mikey Garcia Compares One Active Fighter To Floyd Mayweather

Retired four-weight world champion Mikey Garcia has compared one active fighter in particular to Floyd Mayweather in a shock claim.

‘Money’ Mayweather is widely considered to be one of, if not the greatest fighter to have ever laced up a pair of boxing gloves.

The Michigan-native captured multiple world titles across five weight classes throughout the course of his 17-year professional career, producing legacy-defining wins over the likes of Manny Pacquiao and Oscar De La Hoya.

Mayweather called time on his career back in 2017, just a few months after he stopped former UFC champion Conor McGregor in the 10th round of their monumental crossover bout in Las Vegas.

Speaking to ESNEWS recently, Mikey Garcia spoke fondly about unbeaten two-weight world champion Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez who he once claimed would go on to be the ‘next Floyd Mayweather’.

“You see the skills, you see the talent. There’s levels. I saw the footwork, I saw the speed, I saw the angles, the power, all of that … We’ve seen a lot of fighters that are very talented like that but they lacked discipline, the work ethic.

“He was the first one [in the gym], the last one out. He would go rinse off, shower, eat and he would come back and watch me spar and watch me train. He was absorbing everything … I had them at my camp, him and his brother, I had them at my camp. Disciplined, they were there to run, to train. They had a good time, but they were there to learn … He’s got it all.”

‘Bam’ has slowly emerged as one of the most exciting fighters on the planet since making his professional debut back in 2017.

The 25-year-old from San Antonio was last in action on November 22 when he defeated Argentina’s Fernando Martinez to unify the WBC, WBA and WBO world super-flyweight titles.
