Ryan Garcia has summed up the punching power of Gervonta Davis ahead of his controversial match-up with Jake Paul next month.
‘Tank’ Davis is gearing up to make his highly-anticipated return to the ring against the YouTuber-turned-boxer in a scheduled ten round exhibition clash at the Kaseya Center in Miami on Friday November 14.
The three-weight world champion has not fought since his March showdown with countryman Lamont Roach Jr was declared a majority decision draw, in a controversial bout that saw Davis take a knee but no knockdown was scored.
Former WBC interim lightweight champion Garcia also fell short in his attempt at handing ‘Tank’ his first loss, suffering a seventh round stoppage defeat to the reigning WBA lightweight champion in April of 2023.
Speaking on the Jack Alter YouTube channel, Garcia sensationally claimed that Davis does not actually punch as hard as his record suggests, as he admits the 30-year-old’s ‘accuracy’ has allowed him to rack up 28 stoppage victories during his career.
“He cannot hit hard I’m telling you. It’s his accuracy. The punches that you don’t see are the ones that hurt you. Not the ones that you do see. There are some people that even if you see it, that s—t hurts. He’s not like that. He’s what he is, he’s an accurate sniper. He’s a sniper.”
Davis’ controversial meeting with Paul could actually be the final ring appearance of his storied career, after it was revealed at the beginning of this year that there are plans in place for him to announce his shock retirement from the sport by the end of 2025.
