The Gervonta Davis vs Lamont Roach fight continues to be a hot topic in the boxing world.
Davis was defending his WBA lightweight title against Roach at the Barclays Center in New York, in a fight that many believed would be a straightforward victory for ‘Tank.’
It turned out to be anything but, as Davis was pushed all the way by the challenger, with the fight ending in a majority decision draw after the scorecards read 115-113 Davis and 114-114 twice.
It could have been a completely different outcome though, due to a controversial ninth round where ‘Tank’ decided to take a knee, but the referee opted not to give him a count.
Davis later revealed he did so because of grease in his eye, but the New York State Athletic Commission is investigating the matter which could see the result changed, with many believing it should have been scored a 10-8 round for Roach and therefore seen him become the new champion.
One man who knows Davis well is Ryan Garcia, after the two fighters met back in April 2023, with ‘Tank’ claiming a seventh round stoppage victory.
Garcia has now shared his view on the Davis vs. Roach outcome, revealing that he would be happy to see the result changed to give Roach the win.
“If that changes the whole fight, if that gives Roach the victory, give him the victory. That’s how you keep the integrity of the sport right? That’s why they suspended me right? To keep the integrity of the sport.”
Garcia was suspended for one year following his victory over Devin Haney in April 2023, with it later changed to a no contest after ‘King Ry’ failed a drugs test.
He will return to action in May when he faces Rolly Romero, on a card that also features Haney taking on Jose Ramirez, and WBO super-lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez defending his belt against Arnold Barboza.
