Ryan Garcia has shared his thoughts on a potential showdown with unbeaten star Jaron Ennis.
Garcia achieved his career-long dream of becoming a world champion back in February when he defeated Mario Barrios by unanimous decision to claim the WBC world welterweight title.
‘King Ryan’ floored Barrios in the opening few seconds of their clash at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and would go on to get the nod from all three of the scoring judges at ringside.
As he prepares to make the first defence of his world title this summer, the 27-year-old from California has spoken out about a future clash with former unified welterweight champion Jaron Ennis, who now campaigns at 154lbs.
In footage shared by DAZN Boxing, Garcia admitted that whilst he likes Ennis ‘as a person’, he believes he is capable of knocking out the unbeaten American.
“Will I fight Boots? Bro, I will knock out Boots. The thing I don’t like about Boots. Well, Boots is cool. Cool person. Don’t know much about him, but I like Boots as a person. I don’t like his promoter Eddie Hearn.
“He said ‘Oh my gosh I can’t believe it, why is Xander [Zayas] fighting Boots’ like Boots is some unbeatable fighter. Like bro, we’re fighters. We don’t give a f–k who you are.”
‘Boots’ is currently preparing to face unified WBA and WBO world light-middleweight champion Xander Zayas, with the intriguing unification match-up set to take place at the Barclays Center in New York City on Saturday June 27.
