Ryan Garcia will be an interested spectator when the Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach rematch takes place.
Garcia knows first hand what it is like to share the ring with Davis, after the two men squared off against one another back in April 2023.
It was a dominant victory for Davis, as he dropped Garcia twice on his way to a seventh round stoppage victory, but it wasn’t as straightforward for ‘Tank’ when he went up against Roach in March.
Roach gave as good as he got throughout all 12 rounds, with an extremely controversial moment coming in round nine when Davis voluntarily took a knee but no count was given.
The judges scored the bout 115-113 Davis and 114-114 twice, meaning the decision not to score the ninth as a 10-8 round for Roach denied him the opportunity to become the new WBA lightweight champion.
With a rematch now set to take place this summer, Garcia has made his prediction whilst speaking to ESNews, siding with his former foe.
“I got Tank. I think he’ll put on a different gear. I think he just thought it would be easier than it was and thought Roach would fold and he didn’t. Now he should expect a harder fight and I think he wins the rematch.”
Garcia may have ambitions for a Davis rematch of his own in the future, but for now his next two fights appear to be laid out, facing Rolly Romero at Times Square in New York in May, before a potential second meeting with Devin Haney then taking place later this year.
