After his swift knockout win over Conor Benn, welterweight champion Ryan Garcia is looking to plot his next move.
Garcia defended his WBC belt with a second-round stoppage win over Benn this past weekend and has already turned his attention to what might come next.
One name mentioned is Gervonta Davis, who beat him in back in April 2023 in Nevada, though ‘King Ry’ has claimed he was hampered by weight restrictions for that fight.
As such, he has now taken to X to call out his former opponent for a rematch.
“Gervonta cool but he don’t want the smoke . What’s up with you. I went to 136 you can’t come to 147 don’t be shaky now. I need that if you want it. If not there’s nothing to be said.”
Garcia fought Davis at that catchweight after several years of back and forth, and the contract included a rehydration clause requiring him to weigh no more than 146 pounds on fight night.
Garcia was fast out of the blocks and there plenty of right hands but Davis’s experience got him through and saw him land a decisive body shot in the seventh round that left Garcia unable to continue.
Owing to legal troubles, Davis has fought just twice since then, first knocking out Frank Martin in June 2024 then drawing with Lamont Roach Jr in March 2025 to retain the WBA lightweight title.
WBA champion Teofimo Lopez is another option for Garcia, who has also stated he would like to clean out the welterweight division.
