Ryan Garcia has called for one rule change in particular to be implemented ahead of the controversial match-up between Gervonta Davis and Jake Paul.

Reigning WBA lightweight champion ‘Tank’ Davis is set to face Paul in a scheduled ten round exhibition contest on Friday November 14 at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida.

Their controversial clash was officially launched at a press conference in Miami last week, as MVP Promotions’ Nakisa Bidarian revealed that the bout would have a maximum weight limit of 195lbs in place for both fighters.

It was also revealed that both Davis and Paul would be required to wear 12oz gloves on fight night, a decision that appears to have been made based on the significant size and weight difference between the American duo.

One man who has fallen short to the thunderous punching power of ‘Tank’ Davis in recent years is former WBC interim lightweight champion Garcia, who suffered a seventh round stoppage defeat to the 30-year-old back in April 2023.

In response to a claim made by Davis’ trainer Calvin Ford, Garcia admitted on social media that it would ‘make sense’ for his former rival to have lighter gloves than Paul when they lock horns in November.

“Great question from coach Calvin He asked why Tank can’t get 8 oz and Jake gets 12 oz It only makes sense, since the weight difference is absurd, and it was the point I was making, now that would make it INTERESTING AND I CAN SEE THAT BEING RESPECTFUL”

There have been concerns raised about Davis being allowed to step into the ring with someone of Paul’s size, taking into account that ‘The Problem Child’ stands at eight inches taller than the three-weight world champion and weighed in at just under 200lbs ahead of his most recent ring appearance against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
