Gennady Golovkin has issued an important update on his boxing career as speculation grows about a potential return.

The 43-year-old from Kazakhstan has been out of action since he suffered the second defeat of his glittering career to Canelo Alvarez back in September 2022, falling short in his attempt at become the undisputed world champion at 168lbs.

Golovkin previously reigned as the unified WBC, WBA and IBF world middleweight champion for a number of years, defeating the likes of Danny Jacobs, Kell Brook and Willie Monroe Jr during his outstanding campaign at 160lbs.

As rumours begin to circulate about a potential comeback to the sport for the Kazakh legend, ‘GGG’ has finally issued an update on the prospect of him lacing up the gloves once again in the near future.

Speaking to Boxing Scene, Golovkin was asked if he would welcome a return to the sport despite being out of the ring for over three years.

“Yes, why not? I feel my old emotions here.”

Since his last outing, Golovkin has become a key figure within the amateur side of the sport, acting as the Chairman of the Olympic Commission for World Boxing. He recently attended the World Amateur Boxing Championships in Liverpool, which saw his home nation of Kazakhstan top the medal table with 7 Gold Medals, 1 Silver Medal and 2 Bronze Medals in total.

‘GGG’ could now turn his attention to what would be a sensational return to the ring at some stage in the near future, although it remains to be seen whether boxing fans will get to see the hard-hitting former world middleweight champion climb through the ropes once again.
