George Groves Sums Up Chris Eubank Jr’s Power In 3 Words Ahead Of Conor Benn Fight

Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn will finally settle their rivalry next month in London.

The two were all set to carry on their family feud over two years ago but Benn twice tested positive for a banned substance in the build up and the clash was scrapped just days prior to the opening bell.

After a lengthy legal battle, Benn was officially cleared to fight on UK soil late last year and, after some swift negotiations, both put pen to paper on a new deal.

Since then much has been made about the weight disparity between the two, with Eubank competing as high as super-middleweight, whereas Benn has spent the majority of his career as a welterweight.

One man who knows what it’s like to be in the ring against Eubank at his biggest is former WBA super-middleweight champion George Groves.

The two met at 168lbs back in 2018 in the semi final of the World Boxing Super Series in Manchester. The clash went the distance and Groves won by unanimous decision on the scorecards.

Speaking to iFL TV about the power of Eubank, Groves admitted he’s a strong guy but you see his shots and that his own power ‘was another level.’

“No [he didn’t hurt me]. I mean he was physically strong but I don’t remember any shots that came through where I felt like the legs stiffened or he buzzed me in anyway at all.

He’s certainly heavy handed enough that you wouldn’t want to give away any free shots, he caught me with a couple of cuffing left hooks and stuff like that but I think everything was answered really well, so anytime where he had a tiny bit of, what he might have perceived as success, I shut it down. I shut it down with heavy right hands to the body, it’s a shot I couldn’t miss with.

He’s certainly a physical guy and a strong guy but in terms of punch power you see a lot of his shots coming because he loads up so much and I made him miss a lot especially a lot of the combinations he was throwing. I think my power was on another level from his.”

Eubank and Benn will battle it out at 160lbs with a 10lb rehydration clause placed on the naturally bigger man.
