Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn put on a hugely entertaining display this past weekend and George Groves was ringside to see it.

These two generational rivals left everything in the ring at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as they battled it out for 12 close rounds. Benn started fast as expected and hurt Eubank once or twice, while Eubank then established this jab in the mid rounds. The final rounds saw both men swinging from their heels while Eubank landed the cleaner shots to take a historic unanimous decision with all three judges scoring the fight 116-112

Speaking on George Groves Boxing Club, “The Saint” revealed how he saw the fight and gave it to Eubank by two rounds.

“I had Eubank up by a couple of rounds but I had two 10-10 rounds. There were two rounds you certainly could not split. Both guys were just sitting there in the pocket drilling away, punching away.”

He then broke down what made it such and even and hard fought contest.

“Neither guy had the ability or maybe the brain capacity to put quality shots tougher. That’s easier said than done in front of this sort of crowd when there is no much on the line and you’re so tired and Conor Benn giving away so much natural size and Chris Eubank Jr, way past his best.

Both guys, that’s what they was up against tonight but they punched away. In the last round Conor Benn left his chin in the air a couple of times and got caught with shots but there was no power in them, Chris Eubank was knackered, they were both knackered.”

Because the fight was so enthralling, there is already plenty of clamour for a rematch and September is being talked about as a potential date to do it all again at the same stadium in London.
