Three-weight world champion Gervonta Davis has been called out for a showdown by an unbeaten contender.
The 31-year-old from Baltimore was last in action back in March when he fought to a draw against countryman Lamont Roach Jr, although it has been argued that ‘The Reaper’ did enough to dethrone Davis.
With rumours already circulating about what could come next for Davis, the 31-year-old has recently been targeted for a showdown with unbeaten American star Floyd ‘Kid Austin’ Schofield.
Speaking on social media, Schofield admitted that he is ‘ready’ to face Davis as he claimed his countryman is ‘levels above’ WBC champ Shakur Stevenson.
“We are his [Davis’] mandatory opponent WBA Boxing. We want to fight the best and Tank is levels above Shakur [Stevenson]. This is a major step up from a Shakur; but we ready.”
Schofield was scheduled to clash with Stevenson back in February but the bout was cancelled after he was taken to hospital with an unspecified illness during fight week.
The 23-year-old from New Jersey made his return to action on June 28 when he stopped former IBF super-featherweight champion Tevin Farmer in the opening round of their bout in Anaheim, California.
Whether or not the ‘Tank’ fight materialises remains to be seen, with many in the sport believing the champion may hang up the gloves for good following this latest controversy.
