Gervonta Davis fought to a controversial split decision draw against Lamont Roach Jr last month.

The 30-year-old from Baltimore, Maryland retained his WBA world lightweight title against ‘The Reaper’ on March 1, but came extremely close to suffering the first defeat of what has been an exceptional career to date.

‘Tank’ Davis was forced to take a knee midway through the ninth round, but referee Steve Willis failed to rule this as an official knockdown, prompting outrage from Roach himself as well as the majority of the boxing world, who believe ‘The Reaper’ should have walked away as the newly crowned WBA lightweight champion.

With a rematch between the pair expected to take place at some stage during the summer, potentially late June, Davis believes there should be a major rule change implemented beforehand.

Speaking in the post-fight press conference, ‘Tank’ admitted that he could have done a lot more during the first fight, and feels as though adding live scoring ahead of the rematch would be beneficial to him getting the victory.

“I feel like if we fight again I could do more, and I should have did more, I was lost. I lost track of the rounds. That’s why we need [live scoring], I didn’t know what round it was, facts.”

The WBC has experimented with open scoring, informing the viewing public and fighters teams of how the judges’ scores stand at the end of round four and eight.

It was revealed in the last couple of weeks that both ‘Tank’ and Roach have already agreed to lock horns once again, with an official announcement due to be made in the very near future for what could turn out to be one of the biggest fights of the year.
