Gervonta Davis Names The Hardest Puncher In Boxing

Gervonta Davis added another stoppage to his undefeated record this past weekend in Las Vegas, handing Frank Martin his first defeat via an explosive two-punch knockout.

‘The Ghost’ Martin lived up to his name by successfully avoiding any significant attacks in the opening rounds, scoring points against Davis and even marking his face.

His hopes of winning the WBA Lightweight World Title were dashed in the eighth, however, when Davis pinned him into the corner and let loose. Martin wouldn’t manage to stand for the count.

Post-fight, ‘Tank’ was asked who was the hardest puncher in boxing, pound-for-pound. He was given the option to choose between himself, Japanese phenomenon Naoya Inoue and the only world champion who has won every fight by stoppage, Artur Beterbiev. His answer won’t surprise many.

“Me! I gotta say me, right?”

The Martin knockout was the 28th of Davis’ pro career, German Ivan Meraz and Isaac Cruz being the only two men to make it the distance, albeit still suffering defeat.

Known for biding his time until his opponent presents a gap or opportunity for him to unleash, the 29-year-old certainly has one of the most lethal left hands in the business.

What fans will look to see next is if he can land it in such fashion against an elite operator like Shakur Stevenson, who has called for a unification fight. It’s understood ‘Tank’s team are also in early talks with Top Rank to face Vasily Lomachenko, another skilled champion who will believe he has the arsenal to elude the knockout blow.
