Gervonta Davis has made most of his victories look fairly comfortable.
The reigning WBA lightweight champion has an undefeated record of 30-0, with an impressive 28 of those wins coming inside the distance.
He returns in March to make the latest defence of his belt against Lamont Roach, where he’ll be looking to secure yet another highlight reel KO.
‘Tank’ has already stopped the likes of Ryan Garcia, Rolly Romero, Leo Santa Cruz and most recently Frank Martin during his career, but he summed up Garica’s ability when he called him his ‘easiest opponent’ when asked on social media.
Davis and Garcia met at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas back in April 2023, in a fight that turned out to be one of the biggest of the year, after generating a gate of over 22 million dollars.
Heading into the bout, many fans felt it would be a competitive affair, but like Davis suggests, it was anything but, as ‘Tank’ took control of the fight early on after after dropping Garcia in the second round.
The ending then came in the seventh round, with ‘King Ry’ unable to recover from a body shot, sitting out the 10-count as Davis picked up the win.
Since the loss, Garcia bounced back with a an eighth round stoppage win over Oscar Duarte, before then facing WBC super-lightweight champion Devin Haney.
Garcia was extremely erratic in the build-up, with many in the boxing world concerned for his wellbeing, and this was only furthered when he missed weight by nearly four pounds.
It made him ineligible to win the world title, but to the surprise of most he then dropped Haney three times on his way to a points victory, though it was later overturned to a no contest after Garcia tested positive for a banned substance.
He is now serving a one-year ban but is eligible to return in April, with a potential rematch with Haney on the cards, but the two men have disagreed over one major condition for the bout.
