Gervonta Davis has a target on his back.
As a true box office star and a current champion in the lightweight ranks, one of the most stacked divisions in the sport, the knockout artist from Baltimore is a guaranteed way for rivals to raise their purses and profiles.
Some may be put off by ‘Tank’s record given only two men from 30 have been able to hear the final bell without being knocked out. That doesn’t include rising star Keyshawn Davis, who has been vocal about wanting the bout.
Speaking to Cigar Talk, Keyshawn said that ‘Tank’ and his team were ‘worried’ about the challenge.
“Man, that’s up to Tank is Tank want to see it for himself. Send a contract, a n***a will sign it. Outside of the potential money to be made I will fight him with that same energy he’s coming with. He can’t do all them shenanigans and all that s**t he be doing with other people, he can’t do that s**t with me.
“Yes I’m ready for that. He can’t f**k with me, bro. Him and his coach know that. The bald-headed dude told me ‘just don’t call Tank out for the rest of the year.’ … Them n***as is worried. They want me to move to 140, to get out of 135 so I can be too big and don’t gotta fight them no more. No. I’m staying at 135 and I’m gonna be here till you fight me.”
‘Tank’ has now responded via social media, saying the contender is ‘not even worth mentioning.’
Stop d**k eating, do that and this. Little n***a fighting on Friday night. He’s not even worth mentioning. And buddy a b***h, cold b***h. Tell [him] do [something].”
Keyshawn Davis returns to the ring against Gustavo Lemos this weekend in his home city Norfolk. ‘Tank’ is due out in January against former super-featherweight champion Lamont Roach Jr with a date to be confirmed.
