Gervonta Davis may not have many fights left in him.
The reigning WBA lightweight champion returns to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn in March when he makes the latest defence of his belt against Lamont Roach.
It gives ‘Tank’ yet another chance to add to his resume, with his current undefeated record standing at 30-0, 28 of those victories coming by knockout.
The likes of Ryan Garcia, Leo Santa Cruz, Rolly Romero and Frank Martin have all been stopped inside the distance by Davis, but it seems that the 30-year-old doesn’t expect to stay in the sport for much longer.
He recently revealed that he plans to retire at the end of 2025, meaning boxing fans may only get to see him compete on a few more occasions.
If it does transpire that way, it’s hoped that Davis will fight the very best that is out there, and that may include the man that ‘Tank’ deems to be his dream fight, as he explained to Fight Hub TV.
“I like – who’s the guy from Japan? Inoue? Yeah.”
“That would be a fun fight, and it would be technical. But I think I would be too big for him.”
“But it would be like a dream fight – I like that fight.”
Naoya Inoue is widely regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world, having become a four-weight world champion, undisputed in two of them.
He currently holds all four world titles at super-bantamweight, which is three weight divisions below Davis, making a fight between Inoue and ‘Tank’ unlikely to happen any time soon.
Instead, a more likelier option for Davis could be a rematch against former foe Garcia, but there appears to be one term that they can’t agree on.
