Ahead of his much-anticipated return to the ring, Gervonta Davis has been ranking who he thinks are the best fighters in the sport.

Baltimore banger Davis himself has often been mentioned in this conversation. The current WBA lightweight champion has had some impressive victories, including knockout wins over Rolando Romero, Leo Santa Cruz and, last time out, Ryan Garcia.

After a period of relative inactivity, next up the undefeated three-division world champion will defend his world title against unbeaten top contender Frank ‘The Ghost’ Martin.

Speaking to PPV.com ahead of the fight, Davis was asked to rank his Top 5 currently active pound-for-pound fighters.

“I’d say me, [Saul] ‘Canelo’ [Alvarez], David [Benavidez], [Naoya] Inoue, [Terrence] ‘Bud’ Crawford.”

Many people might believe that Benavidez is a surprise addition in this list. Although a two-time super middleweight champion, he hasn’t had a huge breakout win, but not for the want of trying.

He has been chasing a fight with Canelo for some time but, having failed to get it, he has instead moved up to light-heavyweight to face Oleksandr Gvozdyk for the Interim WBC light heavyweight title in the co-main event this weekend.

Canelo is currently without an opponent for his next fight after handily beating Jaime Munguia over the distance in May.

Former undisputed cruiserweight king turned undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk might also feel hard done by not to make the cut.

Davis’s fight with Martin is on PBC pay-per-view on Prime Video this Saturday. Should he come through, much bigger fights are on the horizon against the likes of Shakur Stevenson and Vasily Lomachenko.
