Gervonta Davis has responded in quick fashion to a young contender who believes has the beating of him.

The 30-year-old from Baltimore, Maryland is 31 fights into a professional career which began back in 2013.

‘Tank’ currently reigns as the WBA world lightweight champion with his most recent defence coming against countryman Lamont Roach Jr on March 1, as their competitive showdown in New York City ended in a controversial draw allowing him to keep ahold of his belt.

Davis and Roach are reportedly set to meet in a highly anticipated rematch in Las Vegas on August 16, although an official announcement for their second encounter is yet to be made.

Another fighter who appears to have found himself on the radar of ‘Tank’ is unbeaten lightweight prospect Floyd Schofield, who marked his return to the ring on Saturday night with an impressive 1st round knockout victory over former IBF super-featherweight champion Tevin Farmer.

In a social media post, Davis sent a scathing message to Schofield after the 22-year-old’s father and trainer, Floyd Schofield Sr, said

“He will get his lil b***h ass whooped. I don’t have none of that twitchy s**t Tevin has. I’ll beat the dog s**t outta this f****t.”

Schofield was originally scheduled to face WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson earlier this year but was forced to pull out due to illness just days before the fight was due to take place in Riyadh. The victory over Farmer, who recently went the distance twice with top contender William Zepeda, puts his rise firmly back on track.

Davis could turn his attention to a showdown against Schofield – ranked number two with the WBA – should he come through his expected rematch with Roach unscathed.
