Gervonta Davis has revealed his ‘dream fight’ would be against a retired five division world champion.
The 30-year-old from Baltimore, Maryland has had an exceptional professional career to date, capturing world titles across three weight classes and remaining unbeaten in 31 contests.
He currently reigns as the WBA world welterweight champion, with his most recent defence coming against Lamont Roach Jr, although the fight was declared a split decision draw after a closely fought twelve rounds on March 1.
Davis is expected to face Roach in a rematch in August, although an official announcement is yet to be made. ‘Tank’ has also been linked with a showdown against Jake Paul, with both fighters said to be in negotiations for a fight that could take place before the end of the year.
In a shock claim made by the 30-year-old, he has revealed the one fighter he would be interested in facing in what he claims would be a ‘dream fight’ for him, although it remains highly unlikely that he will ever get his wish.
Speaking on A Safe Place Podcast, ‘Tank’ was asked to name what his dream fight card would be, naming former pound-for-pound star Floyd Mayweather Jr as the opponent he would choose for himself.
“Me vs. Floyd [Mayweather].”
Davis was actually promoted by Mayweather throughout the early stages of his professional career, before their working relationship went sour and the pair parted ways back in 2022.
A number of financial and personal issues between the pair caused the breakdown in what was once a close partnership. Davis’ career is now guided by respected advisor Al Haymon, who has worked alongside a number of legendary fighters included Mayweather himself.
