GGG Trainer Abel Sanchez Predicts Gervonta Davis vs Shakur Stevenson: “I Can’t Go Against Him”

Top trainer Abel Sanchez has shared his thoughts on the potential ‘dream-fight’ between Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson.

The unbeaten American duo have been on a collision course to face each other for quite some time now but a fight is yet to come to fruition, much to the disappointment of boxing fans around the globe.

‘Tank’ Davis currently reigns as the WBA lightweight champion with his most recent defence coming against fellow countryman Lamont Roach Jr back in March, although the fight was declared a majority decision draw after their twelve closely fought rounds.

As for Stevenson, the 28-year-old from Newark holds the WBC lightweight title and made his latest defence in July when he outpointed Mexico’s William Zepeda in what has been regarded as the best performance of the American’s career to date.

World-title winning coach Sanchez has now given his take on the potential match-up, having had plenty of experience when it comes to big fights due to spending a number of years in the corner of former unified middleweight king Gennady Golovkin.

In an interview with Fight Hype, Sanchez didn’t hesitate to back Davis if he was to face Stevenson, as he gives his plaudits to the exceptional boxing ability of the unbeaten 30-year-old.

“I’m not going to go against my man. I have to take Davis, I think he does things in there that we as coaches can’t teach, he does things in there from the street, he’s so calculating that I would have to take Davis.”

Whilst there have been calls for ‘Tank’ to finally lock horns with Stevenson, fans will have to wait even longer for this intriguing clash after it was revealed that Davis will take part in a shock clash against Jake Paul at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta on November 14.
