As boxing continues to evolve, broadcasters are increasingly looking for new ways to bring fans closer to the action. The latest innovation will make its debut next month, offering viewers real-time insight into what is happening inside the ring.
Described as a “pioneering performance intelligence and next-generation sports content platform”, Gladius will be introduced on Saturday, July 18, when Britain’s Harlem Eubank takes on David Papot at London’s Copper Box Arena.
Available to viewers watching on DAZN, Gladius will overlay live performance data onto the broadcast, providing metrics such as punch power, speed and fatigue throughout the contest. The platform will also feature volumetric replays, designed to give fans a more immersive perspective of the action.
Gladius CEO Oliver Hickey explained what viewers can expect when the technology is unveiled.
“This is the beginning of a new era of combat sports. Gladius creates a single, trustworthy source of truth by intelligently combining video, volumetric capture, audio, and wearable sensors. On July 18th, fans will see every punch’s power, speed, and impact in real time, with Matrix-style volumetric replays and insights that turn raw action into compelling understanding. We believe we are building the definitive infrastructure for the future of sport.”
The launch represents another step in boxing’s growing use of technology to enhance the viewing experience. While innovations such as punch statistics have become commonplace over the years, Gladius aims to provide a far deeper level of live analysis than fans have previously had access to.
Whether it becomes a regular feature of major fight nights remains to be seen, but its debut at Eubank vs Papot will offer the first indication of how viewers respond to real-time performance intelligence being integrated into a live boxing broadcast.
