Britain has a rich history of fighting stars and now George Groves has picked who he thinks will be the face of the next generation.

Groves himself was one of the most well-known fighters on these shores for many years after he sparked his famous rivalry with Carl Froch, despite losing both fights.

There have also been plenty of big-name heavyweights who have drawn thousands to the sport, be that Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury or Dillian Whyte and Derek Chisora, though all four of those are now heading towards the ends of their careers.

Groves has now been discussing the future stars from Britain with Give Me Sport, and he began by debating whether Conor Benn and Chis Eubank Jr are in the frame after their two huge fight in 2025.

“Are they the faces of British boxing? They’re the ones that everyone knows about.”

He then broke down the reasons he in fact thinks young rising heavyweight Moses Itauma could instead become much more celebrated.

“I feel like AJ is retired, and I feel like Fury’s retired, so you can’t have a retired fighter as the face of boxing. I think Moses Itauma is the future face of boxing. He’s opening up a bit more now. We’re seeing a bit more of the personality, which we will need for him to be a huge name. Everything’s going to get a little bit slicker. The social media presence is going to be a lot slicker.”

Itauma fights later in January against American Jermaine Franklin when he will be looking to keep up his recent run of form, which has seen him stop 11 of his 13 opponents inside the first two rounds.
