George Groves Beat Chris Eubank Jr And Now Delivers Honest Verdict On Conor Benn Rematch

George Groves knows what it’s like to fight Chris Eubank Jr. and has been speaking about whether or not he should rematch Conor Benn.

Benn and Eubank came to blows back in April after more than two years of animosity. It was an engaging fight, which Benn started well and landed plenty of shots, but Eubank found a foothold and made use of his weight advantage to take control of the fight and win a unanimous decision on the cards.

Speaking on Sporting Talk, Groves, who beat Eubank Jr back in 2018, explained that he thinks there is no need for a rematch given how the first fight went.

“Yeah, of course he’s going to take it and the fight’s going to happen and we’re going to watch the return. But if it was a movie, what are we going to see in the sequel? They didn’t leave it open, there was no controversy, it was a custom-made fight with the dads’ history, post and rivalry.

“It was forced on them to become rivals when they weren’t even in the same division, the drug test from Benn and the saga that followed intensified this. We’ve had every bit of drama we could.

“The first fight was very entertaining, but we might just watch another entertaining fight. Maybe that’s more than enough for us, but ultimately, when you break it down, it’s not sport anymore. It’s more like influencer boxing.”

Despite all this, money talks. Benn is keen for the rematch and Eubank too, even if his father, Chris Eubank Sr, has long been against it.
