George Groves is the latest to give his verdict on the recent fight between Britain’s Anthony Joshua and American Jake Paul.
This contest divided many people from the off, with some thinking it’s unsafe for two such disparate boxers to meet in the ring, while others gave Paul plenty of credit for having the courage to test himself at that level.
As it turned out, he barely landed a glove on Joshua across the first six rounds before then being stopped with a lethal right cross that shattered his jawbone in several places.
Speaking to Bet Victor, Groves didn’t pull his punches in review of the fight.
“It was embarrassing, it was awful. It was a terrible move for Netflix. I love Netflix. I want them to get involved in big-time boxing, but this is not a fight that’s gonna be shown time and time again. None of it felt like boxing.
“The ring walks were entertaining, and Jake Paul is an entertaining character, but there’s only so many times you can get away with this. It’s like the Wizard of Oz, once you’ve seen behind the curtain, what the else is there to do?”
Where Paul goes next is unsure, but he is unlikely to take on any one of the stair of Joshua again for some time.
‘AJ’ meanwhile, will be hoping to work towards an epic showdown with Tyson Fury or else manoeuvre himself into world title contention and aim to become a three time world heavyweight ruler.
