Boxing fans are finally set to see the fight between Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr.
The fight was originally set to take place in October 2022 before it was scuppered at the eleventh hour due to Benn testing positive for a banned substance, causing the cancellation of the fight and the absence of Benn from the boxing ring for an extended period.
Benn protested his innocence throughout the ordeal, and now he is able to fight again he will meet Eubank nearly three years later than planned when they collide at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London in April.
One man who knows what it is like to be in the ring with Eubank Jr is George Groves, having successfully defended his WBA super-middleweight title against him back in 2018.
Groves has given his verdict on the upcoming bout whilst speaking to Talksport, and after initially feeling Eubank would win, thinks it now could be too close to call.
“I did think it’s too much of a step up on Conor Benn. He was just starting to break through on the world stage but at welterweight.
“Since then as time has gone on, Eubank has had some hard fights. He had a loss he had to avenge, plus he’s really tight at the weight and he keeps talking about rehydration clauses, but it’s in Eubank’s favour as a middleweight.
“It’s really evened up and I wouldn’t want to pick a winner yet because Benn looks like he’s a force and means business. He’s got the right attitude and still has an awful lot to prove.
“Eubank is a bit older and has boxed at the highest level and is still yet to win a world title but he’s come to terms and know that isn’t going to happen in his career. He’s chasing names rather than belts.
“I’m really looking forward to it. It could be a cracking fight, the build up is spicy and let’s hope the fight lives up to what we’ve been waiting for.”
Groves isn’t the only one to offer their take on the match-up, with his former bitter rival Carl Froch also giving a new prediction.
