A legendary multi-weight world champion has made a sensational claim about Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez.
Canelo has captured numerous world titles across four weight classes during his storied 20-year professional career, establishing himself as one of the greatest fighters of his generation.
The 35-year-old from Guadalajara added to his success back in May when he became the undisputed super-middleweight champion for the second time, defeating Cuba’s William Scull in Riyadh.
Canelo has suffered several defeats along the way however, with his most recent setback coming against pound-for-pound superstar Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford, who dethroned the Mexican of his undisputed championship in September, securing his status as the best fighter on the planet.
During the earlier stages of his tenure, Canelo linked up with retired six-division world champion Oscar De La Hoya, who promoted the Mexican star for ten years before their partnership came to an end in 2020.
Tensions between Canelo and ‘The Golden Boy’ have remained since their working relationship broke down, which has culminated in the duo firing shots at one another on more than one occasion.
In a recent ‘Word Association’ feature with DAZN, De La Hoya was asked to sum up his former fighter in just one word, saying that the four-weight world champion is a ‘duck’.
Canelo now finds himself at somewhat of a crossroads in his career, with many fans and analysts left wondering whether he could go on to announce his retirement from the sport following his recent defeat to Crawford.
The 35-year-old is expected to honour his multi-fight deal with Turki Alalshikh’s Riyadh Season however, with reports suggesting that he will make his return to the ring in the early stages of 2026.
