A war of words between Errol Spence Jr and Ryan Garcia has the potential to materialise into quite the intriguing fight.
Despite recently being gym partners, Spence’s messy split with Derrick James has led Garcia, who still trains under the Texan, to target him with bad words and intentions.
Should the talk turn from social media to the negotiating table, former three-weight world champion and Hall of Fame inductee James Toney believes the younger man comes out on top.
Speaking to Mill City Boxing, Toney predicted that Spence would be stopped for the second time in his career.
“Spence gonna get knocked out again.”
The former heavyweight title challenger believes the punishment Terence Crawford inflicted on Spence last time out will have a lasting effect.
“He’s done. Terence does motherf***ers like I used to – when I beat you, I ruin your ass … He’s done. It’s a wrap. He’s f***ed up.”
Even with the added spite of the trainer split, the fight is a far cry from happening.
Garcia is expected to be called to a hearing with the New York State Athletic Commission to determine the course of action for two failed doping tests on fight week of his Devin Haney victory. His team are currently claiming contamination. It’s unclear at what weight he will compete when he next fights, with 147 and 154 on the table.
