A Hall of Fame inductee has sent a stern message out to former unified world welterweight champion Jaron Ennis.
Ennis is due to make his first appearance at 154lbs later this year as he gears up to face Portugal’s Uisma Lima in a final eliminator on Saturday October 11 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
The 28-year-old previously reigned as the unified WBA and IBF world welterweight champion, with his last outing at 147lbs coming against Eimantas Stanionis back in April when he stopped the Lithuanian in the sixth round of their clash in Atlantic City.
‘Boots’ has received some criticism for his choice of opponents throughout his career however, a claim that has recently been backed up by retired two-weight world champion and Hall of Famer Tim Bradley.
Speaking on his own YouTube channel, Bradley sent a scathing message out to the young star, branding him ‘scared’ and criticising his recent decision to join Canelo Alvarez’ camp to help in preparations for facing Terence Crawford.
“Yeah I’m back on you Boots Ennis. Oh yeah, I’m back on you. When you gonna grow some balls bro and fight somebody man? Yeah, I’m coming at you Boots. Yeah, man, this the most attention you’ve ever gotten in your damn career, sparring against Canelo Alvarez. ‘Look at me, I’m helping the champ out’ … You a world champion and you a sparring partner now? If you needed a bag, bro, hit me up.
“You don’t remember, we was supposed to interview you? What did you do when you saw myself? Boy you hung up the phone. Boots scared of them real ones. I’m a real one, yeah, he didn’t wanna answer the tough question. He hung up the phone. We was supposed to interview this guy and he did not.”
Ennis is reportedly in negotiatons to face reigning WBC interim super-welterweight champion Vergil Ortiz Jr next, with rumours circulating that the unbeaten American duo could be set to face each other during the early stages of 2026.
As for the gym work with Canelo, Crawford has said this will make no difference.
