The announcement of Anthony Joshua‘s fight with Jake Paul has caused a huge stir in the boxing world and beyond.

The attention on this contest comes from the sheer contrast in their boxing backgrounds. Joshua is an Olympic gold medallist and former unified world heavyweight champion, known for his size, punching power and victories over elite opponents.

Paul, meanwhile, emerged from YouTube fame into professional boxing, gradually building through wins over retired MMA fighters and ageing mid-level pros.

While Paul has improved and grown the influencer-boxing scene, he has never faced anyone remotely near Joshua’s calibre, and the one time he did fight a somewhat legitimate opponent in Tommy Fury, he lost on the cards.

Despite the Joshua vs. Paul fight announcement, one man believes it will not take place, as whilst speaking to The Sun Sport, former super-middleweight world champion and Hall of Fame inductee Carl Froch claimed it’s just a marketing move from Paul.

“For me, it’s not happening. We were told he was fighting Gervonta Davis, and that never happened either. I don’t believe a word of it. It’s all smoke and mirrors.

“It’s all geared to Jake Paul getting high publicity. He’s not going to jump in with Anthony Joshua and get flattened in a round, because that what’ll happen.”

Froch himself has been linked to a clash with Paul in the past year or so, with ‘The Cobra’ not having competed since his victory over George Groves in 2014.

If Joshua vs. Paul does happen for an eye-watering amount of money, many are saying AJ needs to end the fight within the first two minutes or else risk losing plenty of credibility.

A quick victory, however, sets him on his way back to better fights and a potential showdown with fellow Brit Tyson Fury sometime in 2026.
