A Hall of Fame great has slammed the credentials of Terence Crawford after he announced his retirement from boxing.
‘Bud’ Crawford drew the curtain on his accomplished professional career on Tuesday evening, much to the surprise of boxing fans around the world who had expected to see the 38-year-old return to the ring in 2026.
His 42nd and final ring appearance came on September 13 when he defeated Mexican great Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez to become the undisputed super-middleweight champion at the conclusion of their historic showdown in Las Vegas.
It appears not everyone is impressed with the accomplishments of ‘Bud’ Crawford however, as revealed by legendary fighter-turned-promoter Oscar De La Hoya.
Speaking on social media recently, De La Hoya reacted to the news of Crawford’s retirement where he claims the five-weight world champion only defeated two good fighters in his career.
“What a tool … I can name 4 5 6 fighters that compete and probably even beat him. Please.”
“2 good fighter he beat … congratulations”
This comes after Crawford sent some shots of his own at ‘The Golden Boy’ where he backed himself to defeat both De La Hoya and Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao in a shock claim.
Crawford had been in line to make a return to the ring at some stage next year after it was reported that he had set his sights on dropping down to middleweight and becoming a world champion in a sixth weight class.
Instead, the 38-year-old from Omaha has opted to walk away from the sport, remaining one of the few great champions in boxing history to retire without suffering a single defeat.
