WBO welterweight champion Devin Haney has spoken out after pound-for-pound great Terence Crawford announced his retirement from boxing.

Whilst it had been expected that ‘Bud’ Crawford would make his return to the ring in 2026, the 38-year-old from Nebraska made the shock announcement on Monday evening that he would be drawing the curtain on his glittering career.

Crawford is the latest great champion to walk away from the sport with an unblemished professional record, winning all 41 of his professional bouts along the way.

He became the first male fighter in boxing history to win an undisputed championship in three weight divisions when he defeated Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez via unanimous decision back in September.

Speaking in a social media post, former undisputed lightweight champion Haney gave his reaction to Crawford’s shock announcement.

“Hall of Fame Career! Enjoy retirement Bud!”

Before it was announced that he would be retiring from boxing, Crawford had reportedly expressed an interest in dropping down to middleweight in a bid to become a world champion in a sixth weight class.

It had also been speculated that the Omaha-native could face Canelo in a rematch next after the Mexican superstar revealed his desire in doing battle for the second time.

Crawford produced a number of legacy-defining wins throughout the course of his decorated career, defeating the likes of Errol Spence Jr, Shawn Porter, Israil Madrimov and of course Canelo.

As for Haney, he will be looking to continue where ‘Bud’ has left off by continuing his own great career, having become a three-weight world champion to date.
