Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia look set to face off again towards the end of 2025, with certain conditions, and Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez believes it will be ‘easy work’ for Garcia.
The two faced off professionally last year after longtime amateur rivalry dating back to their teens. The event was one of the most controversial of the calendar year, with Garcia’s erratic behaviour leading for some to call for him to be pulled out.
He did not help himself when he came in 3 pounds overweight, thus ineligible to win Haney’s WBC Super-lightweight World Title but still able to fight after a deal was struck. Garcia upset the odds massively, putting the champ down three times on his way to a majority decision win.
The 26-year-old’s victory was short-lived, however, when it was revealed he had twice tested positive for banned substance Ostarine. The result was overturned to a no-contest, Garcia fined over $1 million and banned for a year, ending this April.
After conversations with boxing powerbroker Turki Alalshikh the two fighters have reportedly agreed a rematch for the second half of the year, though they first must each get a victory on the same night in May.
Responding, Haney warned his foe that, “Canelo can’t fight for you,” on social media, and also brought up the failed tests.
He had to ask canelo now that he “clean”.. Nelo can’t fight for him tho https://t.co/MRvac0Poba

Haney will reportedly face Jose Ramirez in May, with Garcia taking on Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz on the same bill.
