Devin Haney has finally responded to Shakur Stevenson after rumours began to circulate about a potential showdown between the American duo.

Stevenson etched his name into the boxing history books last weekend as he comprehensively defeated Teofimo Lopez to capture the WBO super-lightweight title and become a four-division world champion at just 28-years-old.

The three judges scored the contest 119-109 in favour of Stevenson, with his title win at 140lbs going alongside his reigns at featherweight, super-featherweight and lightweight.

As for Haney, the California-native pulled off another legacy-defining victory back in November when he defeated countryman Brian Norman Jr via unanimous decision to become the WBO world welterweight champion at the ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

In the days following his outstanding win over Lopez, Stevenson has expressed an interest in a future clash with Haney in what would prove to be one of the biggest fights in the sport between two unbeaten stars.

Speaking on social media, Haney admitted that whilst he believes Stevenson is a ‘tremendous fighter’ he backs himself to defeat his countryman should they go on to cross paths in the future.

“I think he if a tremendous fighter too.. but hell yes I know I can beat him.”

Whilst fans will be hopeful that a bout between the unbeaten American duo can be made this year, Stevenson will not be short of options and could even go on to lock horns with Britain’s Conor Benn, who has also put himself forward as a potential future opponent for the four-weight world champion.
