Devin Haney appears to have sent a warning to Terence Crawford ahead of his mega-fight against Canelo Alvarez.
‘Bud’ Crawford is gearing up to try and defy the odds and become a five-weight world champion when he clashes with the Mexican superstar later this year.
Although an official announcement is yet to be made on the fight, it is expected that the pound-for-pound stars will lock horns at a venue in Las Vegas this September, with Canelo putting his super-middleweight titles on the line.
One fighter who has shown an interest in the mega-fight is two-weight world champion Haney, who has recently spoken out and issued his American counterpart a warning ahead of what is undoubtedly the toughest test of his career so far.
Speaking to Fight Hype, Haney was reluctant in backing ‘Bud’ to do the business against Canelo, as he expects the significant jump in weight for the 37-year-old to play a huge factor in his performance and the result.
“Weight classes for a reason. You know he’s daring to be great [though], gotta respect him.”
With Crawford currently preparing to make the move up to 168lbs, Canelo’s focus has been directed at IBF super-middleweight champion William Scull who he faces in Riyadh on May 3, as he targets becoming a two-time undisputed champion at 168bs.
Victory over Scull will mean that ‘Bud’ Crawford will be given the opportunity to become a three-weight undisputed world champion, having already achieved that feat at super-lightweight and welterweight respectively.
