Former world heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman has shared his thoughts on the controversial match-up between Gervonta Davis and Jake Paul.
It was confirmed last week that reigning WBA world lightweight champion ‘Tank’ Davis will face Paul on Friday November 14 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, in what is being described by the promotion as a hybrid contest between an exhibition and pro bout.
Davis had been in line to face countryman Lamont Roach Jr in their warranted rematch after a controversial first encounter back in March ended in a draw, although these plans were shelved in favour of this event.
As for Paul, the 28-year-old from Cleveland was reportedly in negotiations for a controversial clash with two-time unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. He opted for Davis, though says the ‘AJ’ can happen next year.
Speaking on B4 Champ, heavyweight great Rahman didn’t hesitate to predict a knockout victory for ‘Tank’ Davis, saying he expects the lightweight star to ‘lay out’ the former Youtuber.
“I think Tank gonna knock him out.”
“So I’m just telling you, don’t be surprised if Jake lands flat out.”
Paul has been criticised for opting to face ‘Tank’ Davis in his next outing, especially considering the unbeaten 30-year-old from Baltimore stands eight inches shorter and weighed in at an astounding 60 pounds lighter than ‘The Problem Child’ ahead of his March showdown with Roach. Rules – including weight, gloves size, and number of rounds – for the bout are yet to be confirmed.
