Former world champion Ricky Hatton has shared his verdict on Oleksandr Usyk’s emphatic win over Daniel Dubois.

Usyk wrote his name into the boxing history books once again by becoming the first fighter ever to win the undisputed heavyweight championship on two occasions in the four belt era.

The Ukrainian superstar stopped Dubois in the fifth round of their historic showdown at Wembley Stadium in London, just shy of two years on from their first encounter in Poland which saw Usyk stop the hard-hitting Brit in the ninth.

Usyk floored Dubois with a short right hand just over one minute into round five, before he closed the show a few seconds after ‘DDD’ rose to his feet with a thunderous left hook.

In an interview with iFL TV, Hatton summed up the overall performance of Dubois as he claims the 27-year-old Londoner’s performance was ‘alright’ up until the events of the fifth round unfolded.

“I don’t think Daniel could have done any much more than what he was doing, I think he was doing alright, I think he was pretty nip and tuck and that but you just got to give credit to Usyk, you know fighters like Usyk come along once in a lifetime to be honest with you, do you know what I mean? He was a little bit nip and tuck, he made him fall short and then he clocked him and he just never ceases to amaze me Usyk.”

The 38-year-old Ukrainian has undoubtedly cemented himself as the greatest heavyweight of his generation, although it remains to be seen whether he will go on to announce his retirement from the sport following this historic victory after hinting he could go on to face former rival Tyson Fury next, despite getting the better of ‘The Gypsy King’ on two occasions previously.
