Former heavyweight champion David Haye has been speculating over a fight between rising star Moses Itauma and veteran Tyson Fury.
Fury has been retired since January following his second consecutive loss to Oleksandr Usyk in late 2024. They are the only two marks on his record, having been a two-time champion with great wins over the likes of Deontay Wilder and Wladimir Klitschko.
Itauma is at the opposite end of his career. The 20-year-old has had just 13 fights, won 11 of them by KO, and is on a hot streak that has seen his last nine opponents all beaten inside the first bell, including former world title challenger and experienced veteran Dillian Whyte, who he brutally stopped in mid-August following wins over Demsey McKean and Mariusz Wach.
Speaking on iFL TV, Haye was asked if Itauma is already capable of besting the division’s ageing top dogs, like Fury, Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk. Haye said only the undisputed Ukrainian champion has a shot.
“Yeah, I think he beats everybody. The only person is Usyk, the only person who has a chance against him is Usyk off the strength of that victory against Dillian Whyte. Sounds crazy, I know, sounds mental, but there’s no chinks in his game. I can’t see where anyone can penetrate. Everything’s just really clean. I don’t think I’ve seen that before.”
Itauma is keen to move quickly towards a world title fight. In fact, after his last outing, he was quick to call out two-time undisputed heavyweight ruler Oleksandr Usyk. The Ukrainian responded recently and admitted the young star was indeed ready to step up again, though his team disagreed.
As for ‘The Gypsy King’, fans hope he will come out of retirement to face Joshua. A bout with Itauma does not seem to be on the horizon for him.
