David Haye has offered his thoughts on this weekend’s heavyweight battle between Joseph Parker and Fabio Wardley.
Parker and Wardley meet at The O2 Arena in London on Saturday, in a clash that is set to have big implications on who current undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk may face next.
With the fight now just days away, some of the biggest names in the sport have shared their view on the match-up, and now former cruiserweight and heavyweight champion Haye has weighed in with his take.
Speaking to IFL TV, Haye first broke down what he thinks of the two men heading into the bout.
“Parker seems to want to fight all of the toughest guys on the planet. Bakole, Zhang, Wilder, those three guys are the guys you don’t want to fight. He needs the action and needs the most dangerous guys.
“Wardley didn’t look that clever in his last fight but prior to that was the shot against [Frazer] Clarke, the overhand right that put a dent in the side of his head. He’s got heart, he’s gritty, he’s strong, young and fresh, with no real miles on the clock.”
Haye then revealed who he believes will come out on top.
“Parker has experience. A former world champion who beat Ruiz and has had some real great fights over the years and proven time and time again that he’s genuine world level.
“Wardley I think it’s a little early for him. Off the strength of his last fight, obviously he won a spectacular knockout victory, but up until that knockout victory he didn’t look comfortable. I’m not sure if the training camp was bad or whatever, but if I was a betting man I’d go with Parker. Possibly on points.
“Wardley has shown massive heart and grit, durability, toughness, so it’s not to say that Parker will stop him, but I’d say Parker on points.”
Whether or not Haye is correct will be revealed when Wardley and Parker fight this weekend.
