David Haye Says One Fighter ‘Beats Everybody’ In His Prime

David Haye has high praise for one American boxing legend.

Haye has secured his own place in the boxing history books after a storied career in which he competed between 2002 and 2018.

Even before he turned professional, he was the first British boxer to reach the final of the World Amateur Boxing Championships, ending up with a silver medal in 2001.

After that, he rose through the pro ranks and won his first cruiserweight world title in 2007 when he beat Jean-Marc Mormeck and picked up the WBA and WBC titles. He added the WBO belt when he beat Enzo Maccarinelli in 2008 then moved up to heavyweight and accomplished the rare feat of also winning a world title in the division when he beat Nikolai Valuev.

He went on to best John Ruiz and Audley Harrison before losing to Wladimir Klitschko and later losing two back-to-back fights to Tony Bellew before retiring in 2018 after a career plagued by injury.

Speaking to Froch on Fighting, Haye suggested that on his day, Roy Jones Jr was unbeatable.

“I think Roy Jones Jr in his prime beats pretty much everybody.”

Jones Jr is often spoken about as one of the best of all time and a pound-for-pound ruler who was the first former middleweight champion in more than 100 years to win a world title up at heavyweight.

He also lifted belts in the super middleweight and light heavyweight divisions before hanging up his gloves in 2023 after 76 fights, and he recently ranked Oleksandr Usyk as one of the top five heavyweights of all time.
