Eddie Hearn thinks he has signed the next big boxing superstar to come from Britain.
Hearn has worked with some of the best talent in the sport for more than 15 years. He took Anthony Joshua from his pro debut all the way to becoming a unified world champion, and did the same with Katie Taylor, who became undisputed and one of the best female fighters of all time.
Right now Hearn has the likes of world champion Dalton Smith and title hopeful Ben Whittaker on his books, but has now signed up another star of tomorrow.
Speaking to DAZN Boxing, Hearn had plenty of praise for Liverpool’s Odel Kamara.
“We saw it in the amateurs. Everybody knows, everybody in the amateur system, everybody in boxing knows, this is the new superstar of British boxing. Everybody wanted to sign him, we nipped in, we got it done, it was expensive, but it should be, because this is star quality, and this is the future for British boxing.
“Everybody stops me in the street all the time and says who should we be looking out for, We’ve got some great fighters, and he’ll one on the undercard of one of them – Ben Whittaker in a massive fight for his career – but when you look at young talent coming through over the next three to five years, this is him.”
Kamara is 22 years of age and fights at light-middleweight. He won a bronze medal in the 70 kg division at the 2025 World Boxing Championships and signed a deal to turn professional with Matchroom in August.
He will be trained by Conor Benn’s long-time coach Tony Simms and is set to make his debut on October 3 at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham against an opponent yet to be named.
His light middleweight division is currently dominated by the likes of fellow Brit and IBF world champion Josh Kelly, with Sebastian Fundora and Zander Zayas holding the other three belts and stars like Jaron Ennis and Vergil Ortiz topping the rankings.
