Promoter Eddie Hearn has had his say on the upcoming mega-fight between Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez.
Crawford will attempt to become a five-weight world champion against the Mexican icon who currently holds the unified WBC, WBA and WBO super middleweight titles.
The 34-year-old from Guadalajara, Mexico was the undisputed champion at 168lbs from 2021 up until last summer, before he was stripped of his IBF crown after he opted to face Edgar Berlanga instead of his mandatory challenger William Scull.
One man who has shown significant interest in the battle of two of boxings biggest stars is promoter Hearn, who actually promoted Canelo for a brief period over the last few years.
Speaking to Boxing Social, Hearn had his say on Crawford’s chances of prevailing in his battle with Canelo, praising ‘Bud’ as having the ability to cause problems but ultimately stating ‘the size is too much.’
“Crawford’s not just coming up to 168, he’s just come to 154. And before that he was at 147, and before that he was at 140, and before that he was at 135, I just think the size is too much.
I think he struggled against Madrimov, who’s a strong 154 pounder, and I think he will really feel it in there against Canelo, but his movement and his brilliance and his ring IQ will cause Canelo some serious problems.”
The highly anticipated showdown between the pound-for-pound icons is set to take place at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas this September, although an official announcement is yet to be made.
