Eddie Hearn is at the heart of the negotiations about where and when Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will fight, but has made an admission British fans will not want to hear.
This long-awaited heavyweight clash has been talked about for more than a decade. Between them, Joshua and Fury have ruled over the heavyweight division, and both have been two-time world champions.
They have beaten the likes of Wladimir Klitschko, Deontay Wilder, Joseph Parker, Derek Chisora, Dillian Whyte, Francis Ngannou and many more along the way; however, neither man was able to solve the puzzle that is Oleksandr Usyk, who beat them twice and left both men without a world title.
Since then, Fury took all of 2025 off but has returned with two routine wins this year – first a points victory over Arslanbek Makmudov, then a stoppage of Mariusz Wach.
Joshua has beaten Jake Paul and Kristian Prenga, though not before a first-round scare against the Albanian that saw him hit the canvas not once but twice. He has also been involved in a tragic car accident in which he lost two close friends.
Speaking to FightHype, Hearn was asked about the battle to stage the fight in the US versus the UK, claiming that he is pushing for it to happen this side of the Atlantic.
“I don’t know if we’re going to win that race, but we’re doing everything we can for British fight fans. And I’m becoming very unpopular in those circles by doing so. Because they think I should just do it, but I’m saying no.”
Both fighters are arguably long past their best as they head towards 40 years of age, so many are finding the outcome hard to call, with some believing Joshua’s power will get him through, and others believing the better boxing fundamentals of Fury will be enough.
