Eddie Hearn Delivers Honest Verdict On Tyson Fury’s ‘Warm-Up’ Opponent: “I Know Who It Is”

Tyson Fury seems set on risking another fight before his showdown with Anthony Joshua later this year, and ‘AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn believes he knows the amount of danger posed.

Fury made his first comeback in April after spending all of 2025 in retirement following two consecutive losses to Oleksandr Usyk that left him without a belt.

He took on Arslanbek Makmudov across 12 rounds and kept the big Russian at bay to secure a unanimous points decision and get back to winning ways.

Since then, it has been announced that Fury will finally step into the ring with his long-time rival and fellow former world champion Joshua later this year pending Joshua’s interim fight against Kristian Prenga, and there has been much debate over whether or not he needed another warm-up fight.

Speaking to Boxing King Media, Hearn confirmed ‘The Gypsy King’ will be taking one more bout.

“I know who he’s fighting. I’m not going to say.”

He was asked if he was better than ‘AJ’s opponent, Prenga.

“I don’t think so, but there’ll be reasons for you to think he might be. It’s not a horrendous opponent. By the way, why would you fight anyone with any threat? He’s just done 12 rounds with Makmuhdov; he didn’t look fantastic.

“He’d be out of the ring for a long time. I’m not crazy about him having another fight, I’m not screaming and shouting about it. If that’s what he feels he needs. He’s fighting a guy he knows he’ll beat. I’ve no fear with this opponent. He’ll be absolutely fine.”

Joshua hasn’t fought since last December when he knocked out Jake Paul in the United States, and he is back in action on July 25 against Prenga in a fight he needs to win to set up the biggest night of his career.

News on Fury’s opponent and fight date is expected soon.
