Jake Paul is gearing up to face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr this summer but, according to promoter Eddie Hearn, he already has plans for his next move.
The fight takes place in Anaheim, California and will be ten rounds at the cruiserweight limit.
Speaking to the media this week, Hearn – who has said his heavyweight charge Anthony Joshua would consider a fight with the YouTuber-turned-boxer – let slip that Paul has rescheduled his previous talks with WBA Lightweight World Champion Gervonta Davis for just months after the Chavez bout.
“If Chavez come in in any kind of shape, with any kind of desire, it’s not a terrible fight. We know that Gervonta [Davis] is going to fight Jake Paul in November and then we’ll see what happens, if there’s an AJ fight.
It would be interesting to go from Gervonta Davis to Anthony Joshua. I don’t think the Chavez fight is terrible. I think it’s a smart bit of business. Hopefully Chavez can get himself up for it. He doesn’t have too long, he’s been through a lot, but he was once a decent fighter a long time ago.”
It is well known that Paul and ‘Tank’ were close to announcing some form of contest before the world champion’s plans were disrupted by Lamont Roach Jr, who fought to a controversial draw and has earned an immediate rematch.
Though Davis would be undoubtedly the most skillful fighter Paul has faced, pound-for-pound, the huge gulf in weight – Paul last fought at 227 pounds and ‘Tank’ competes at 135 – makes the event nothing but a sideshow, with any form of professional sanctioning surely off the table.
