Conor Benn is signed to fight with Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing, but Matchroom CEO Eddie Hearn has cast doubt on them working together again.
Zuffa has had a rather rocky start to life, having made big moves to sign a number of big names.
Those include Benn, Jai Opetaia, who has been stripped of his IBF cruiserweight title and launched into legal action against the organisation, and Shakur Stevenson, all on eye-waveringly high contracts.
Benn’s first fight saw him beat ageing veteran Regis Prograis at a catchweight, then lose inside two rounds to Ryan Garcia.
Speaking to Pro Boxing Fans, Hearn predicted that Benn and Zuffa will disagree over his next opponent and that he will walk away from the deal.
“You’ve just given Conor Benn 15 million. Watch what happens with Conor now. He’s got a comeback fight. Watch who they try and make him fight for that comeback fight. I don’t believe he will fight for Zuffa again.
“He’ll go ‘I’m not fighting him’ and they’ll go ‘see ya’ because that’s what they do. What they will do is give him an opponent he doesn’t want to fight, because he’s on a lot of money for a comeback fight. I know how they work. I can see it miles off.”
Benn is resting up after his last defeat and said he would not return to welterweight again, which opened up the possibility of a third and deciding fight with his old rival Chris Eubank Jr sometime next year.
