Anthony Joshua versus Jake Paul has been discussed as a potential fight for some time and now Eddie Hearn has given a fresh update.
Paul has done an impressive job of making himself one of the most talked-about fighters on the planet despite being somewhat new to the game.
He has fought unlikely but huge names like Mike Tyson, who he beat in November last year, and faded former champions like Julio Cesar Chavez Junior, with just one loss to Tommy Fury in his 13 contests so far.
Although he is a cruiserweight, he has spoken before of his desire to take on former two-time world champion Joshua, with the pair having gone back and forth in recent months.
Speaking to Matchroom Boxing, Joshua’s promoter Hearn suggested the fight is there to be made.
“There have been some conversations. Jake and AJ have spoken as well. From our point of view, if we’re going to have a run-out fight, why not have a run-out against Jake Paul for a lot of money?
“There are ongoing conversations. I can’t tell you it’s close, I can’t tell you I’ve seen a contract. If he genuinely wants to fight Anthony Joshua, I don’t see why we wouldn’t have a chance to do that fight.
“But our focus now is on a charge at the world heavyweight championship and Tyson Fury. At the moment, anything is possible.”
Joshua has not fought since his KO loss to Daniel Dubois in September 2024 but is set to return soon after more than a year out recovering from an elbow injury.
Although he and the rest of the boxing world are keen to see him take on Fury, this could be seen as a good way back to the ring after Paul’s scheduled fight with Gervonta Davis was recently canned following a civil lawsuit levelled against ‘Tank.
