Eddie Hearn is hoping one of his British fighters will get the chance to fight for a world title on the undercard of Anthony Joshua‘s showdown with Tyson Fury.
Joshua and Fury is the biggest fight in British boxing history, and it takes place at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff after years of back and forth between the two former heavyweight champions.
Joshua has a history of fighting at the stadium, having stopped Carlos Takam in the 10th round of his defence of his WBA and IBF titles in 2017, and in 2018 he beat Joseph Parker by unanimous decision to add the WBO belt to his collection.
Beyond the Fury vs. Joshua main event, there will be a sizeable undercard and, speaking to Matchroom Boxing, Hearn made the case for one of his fighters to feature in a contest initially planned for July this year.
“For me, Joe Cordina against Abdullah Mason is the fight, it really is. And by the way, if Joe Cordina wants to fight Shakur Stevenson, he’s ready to go. You’re talking about a Welsh two-time champion who was supposed to fight Abdullah Mason anyway, so I would love to see Joe get an opportunity on the card.”
Cordina is a two-time super-featherweight world champion who held the IBF title between 2022 and 2024 when he lost it to Anthony Cacace. He has fought twice since, beating Jaret Gonzalez Quiroz and Gabriel Flores Jr on points to claim the WBO International lightweight title.
