The talk about Terence Crawford stepping up to fight Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez refuses to go away, even though previously being ruled out by its financial backer Turki Alalshikh.
Both of these men are considered among some of the best active fighters in the world. Mexican ‘Canelo’ currently holds three of the four major belts at super-middleweight and has won championships up at light-heavy and down at light-middleweight.
Omaha’s Crawford is naturally a much smaller man who has been undisputed lightweight and welterweight king and is currently holds the WBA 154 lbs belt having beaten Israil Madrimov last time out.
Alalshikh made it clear he wanted to make the fight but got frustrated with Canelo’s manner of response so ruled out the contest. However, having been sent a message from the Mexican’s team he is now considering revisiting negotiations.
Speaking to Seconds Out, heavyweight legend Riddick Bowe was asked about the one fighter he always watches and went with ‘Bud.’
“I think it’s Terence. I have a feeling he’s knocking everybody out, he’s cool, he’s not nervous. Terence Crawford.”
He was then asked about the mind state of modern fighters versus those of his era.
“There is no comparison. If they fought me back in the day, they don’t think the way they made us think.”
Finally, he backed Crawford to climb up the weights and beat ‘Canelo’ should the two ever meet.
“Think about it, if his people thought he couldn’t do it he wouldn’t be doing it. I think 100% he’ll win the fight. It will be a great fight.”
Right now, Canelo is busy in camp for his next fight in September against Edgar Berlanga and refuses to discuss potential future fights.
