Deontay Wilder is preparing to make his long awaited return to the ring after suffering back-to-back defeats.

‘The Bronze Bomber’ has not fought since he was knocked out by Zhilei ‘Big Bang’ Zhang in brutal fashion last June, leaving the 39-year-old former WBC heavyweight champion having to make an important decision on his boxing career.

Wilder had also tasted defeat at the hands of Joseph Parker in December 2023, after the New Zealander put on a career best performance against the heavy-handed American to claim a unanimous decision victory in Riyadh.

After months of speculation, the 39-year-old has confirmed he intends to fight on as he now gears up to return to the sport after many felt he would finally hang the gloves up.

In a shock revelation, former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon ‘The Cannon’ Briggs has reportedly thrown his hat into the mix to face Wilder, despite not fighting in almost 10-years.

Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Briggs conferred he will be returning this year and made his feelings clear on a potential showdown with Wilder, claiming a contest between the American duo would be ‘great’.

“I would like to fight him, I think it would be a great fight in Alabama when he comes back.

I never really retired, they just won’t fight me. I’m going to fight in March so if he wants to go, we can go.”

‘The Cannon’ last appeared back in 2016 when he knocked out Emilio Zarate in the opening round of their bout at the O2 Arena in London. During his 68 fight career Briggs faced the likes of Lennox lewis, Vitali Klitschko, and George Foreman.
